SciFilmIt Cluj-Napoca 2024
SciFilmIt Cluj-Napoca 2024 took place on the 17th -18th of April at the National College George Cosbuc in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Five teams of high-school students created five fun and imaginative science films with the support of the science and film-making mentors and the organizing team. Organizing team
Vivi Nastase — main organizer and coordinator of the science mentoring team. Vivi is a researcher in artificial intelligence, most precisely natural language processing and machine learning, at the University of Geneva/IDIAP, and member of the SciFilmIt organization.
Diana Mihăilă — local organizer and coordinator of the film-making mentoring team. Diana is a graduate of the Faculty of Theater and Film in Cluj-Napoca, the cinematography and media department. She also has an acting degree from the “Tudor Jarda” Art School in Cluj-Napoca. She has significant experience working with children and has been organizing film education workshops for over 2 years. Diana aims to encourage the little ones to approach art with interest and curiosity. “Working with children, we are actually addressing the people of the future.”
Rareș H. Stoica — local organizer and film-making mentor. Rareș is a film director. He has created impactful films for young people and leads projects that address issues related to mental health, suicide prevention, combating drug use, as well as fiction films on various themes. Rareș is the vice-president of the Persona Association, and organizer of the film festival ClujShorts.
Science mentors
Codrin Berinde is a 1st year student at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. Codrin is passionate about science and technology, particularly in fields such as physics, informatics or electronics. Eager to get involved in practical projects and activities, he is always curious to learn and experience new things, but also to meet people with whom he shares his passions.
Alina Botezatu is a 4th year student it the Faculty of Medicine at the Univeristy of Medicine and Pharmacy Iuliu Hatieganu Cluj-Napoca. She is fascinated by the complexity of the physiological and pathological processes of the human body. Through her active commitment and perseverance, Alina aspires to make significant contributions to the promotion of health in the community.
Liviu Mircea is a passionate researcher of the secrets of the universe, and works at the Astronomical Observatory in Cluj-Napoca. Liviu has been studying the sky for more than 30 years. At least once a week, he enthusiastically shares his knowledge with visitors to the Observatory on Ciresilor street in Cluj-Napoca
Amalia Nemeș has been active for 4 years in the research group of Prof. Dr. Dan Cristian Vodnar, within the Institute of Life Sciences “King Michael I of Romania” at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca. Amalia is in the last year of her doctorate in the field of Biotechnologies and an associate teacher at the Faculty of Food Science and Technology. Amalia is passionate about nutrition and sustainability research.
Film-making mentors
Oana Balaci is a master’s student and film / theater critic. She has written for the Romanian publications LiterNet, AperiTIFF, Cinemagia, Matca Literară and Films in Frame. She has interviewed famous personalities in the field of cinema such as Oliver Stone, Timothy Spall, Darko Perić or Uberto Pasolini. She has been present at the Cannes Film Festival as a journalist since in 2022.
Emily Noejovich has a background in philosophy, and recently finished film studies at the Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca. Emily is an introverted person at first glance, but with a lot of energy inside. She is a very open person and passionate about trying new things.
Denisa Rebeca Tătar is a Design Department graduate from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, after completing her first studies at the Fine Arts high school with the same specialization. Denisa enjoys challenges, especially creative ones and problem solving, but she also appreciates individuality and independence.
