These are the people behind SciFilmIt hackathon Bogota 2023. All sharing our passion for film making, storytelling and science communication.
Julie C. Guardo Quintero (General coordinator)
Julie is deeply passionate about books and the arts. She graduated with a major in Literature, with a specialization in editing, editorial design and communication. She is currently a Design student, with an emphasis on Digital Narratives and Arts and Cultural Management, at Universidad de los Andes, Colombia.
Her admiration for the illustrations of the Comisión Corográfica, botanical illustration, and collective creation has led her to lead multiple editing and community writing workshops in book fairs and bookstores. She published her first book, Puertas a lo desconocido, in 2017 at the age of 15, and is currently working on her next literary project. Since 2020, she has been a co-founder of the podcast Léxeia, palabras en griego, a space dedicated to conversations about literature, art and creative processes. Julie works as an art director for short films, an independent editorial designer, a bookseller, and occasionally as a Spanish teacher.
Carlos Guarnizo (BioCore | Universidad de los Andes)
Carlos Guarnizo is a biologist and science communicator with a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. He has dedicated his career to scientific research and communication. His research interests focus on biological diversification in the Colombian Andes, particularly studying the biogeography of frogs to better understand evolutionary processes. He is the creator of initiatives such as Ciencia Café pa’ Sumercé and co-author of the books Tiburones: Una travesía submarina and Dinosaurios: Una travesía cretácica, as well as the educational albums Tiburockcito Filarmónico and Dinosaurios: Una travesía cretácica. Carlos is also the creator and host of the television program Embusters and has organized large-scale science outreach exhibitions at Universidad de los Andes. He currently works in science communication at the Vicerrectoría de Investigación y Creación at Universidad de los Andes.
Laura Forero (Facultad de Ciencias | Universidad de los Andes)
Laura Forero graduate from Literature and Digital Storyteller from Universidad de los Andes. She has four years of experience in science communication, particularly in the creation of content for social media, writing outreach texts, and producing science documentaries. She was nominated for an India Catalina Award in the category Best University Production for her work on the documentary La Tormenta. Laura has participated as an organizer and speaker in the last two editions of SciFilmIt. She is currently part of the communications team of the Faculty of Sciences at Universidad de los Andes.
