Kat is a documentary filmmaker and producer currently working for a production and distribution company in Zurich, Switzerland. Before that she worked at Schweizer Radio and Fernsehen and directed and produced her first feature length documentary for SRF. She holds an MFA in Film Directing, her thesis focusing on the future of financing independent film in a changing market. She loves pitching film ideas to potential collaborators and putting teams together. She loves films and stories with humor and a bit of an edge and is convinced that truth is always stranger than fiction, which is why she has dedicated her professional life to documentary storytelling. She is convinced filmmakers and scientists are destined to become good collaborators and friends because they are equally dedicated to their craft.

Vivi is a researcher in natural language processing and machine learning (which are often bundled into AI) at the Idiap research institute in Martigny, Switzerland. She thinks that science communication is very important, and that people doing the research should be given the opportunity and support to communicate their ideas directly, in an entertaining format, particularly through short films.
Stories are such a powerful — and time tested! — medium to propagate knowledge and information in both geographical and temporal space! And cinematographic stories are very attractive, and have the potential to reach a wide public.

Ricardo A. Pinzón Nieto
Favourite film: This is a difficult one. I have no favorite film but I would say “Highlander” is in my top list. It’s fun, has Queen’s music and explores the subject of human identity and mortality.
Favourite area of science: Sociology. The complexity of human interactions.
Role in SciFilmIt: Organizer of Colombian’s hackathons
Ricardo is a filmmaker and communications specialist with a multidisciplinary background in Law, Sociology, and Cinema. He holds a Master’s in Sociology of Communications and Culture. His thesis explored the potential of funeral rituals to rebuild social fabrics in contexts of political violence.
He has worked as an editor and producer for documentary films and TV series broadcast on NatGeo, Fox Latin America, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and major Colombian networks. He directed Alias JJ: Evil Celebrity (available on Netflix) and contributed to the Swiss cult film Mad Heidi as an Extras AD.
Ricardo currently works as a communications consultant and freelance editor. He has participated as a filmmaker in SciFilmIt Hackathons in Geneva, Lausanne, and Zurich, and has since led the organization of the Bogotá hackathons starting in 2021. His approach blends narrative experimentation with a deep commitment to social impact.
